BEGINNING AS A DESIGN CHALLENGE TO GIVE MAXIMUM NEW LIFE TO A COLLECTION OF DECREPIT FURNITURE COLLECTED FROM LAND FILL DESTINED RUBBISH PILES. “REBIRTHED” AIMS TO CHALLENGE BELIEFS AND PRECONCEPTIONS AROUND WASTE MATERIAL.
ORIGINALLY PRESENTING A RANGE OF CORK/ STEEL/ TIMBER FURNITURE, THE PROJECT EXPANDED TO INCLUDE A COLLECTION OF WALLETS AND BAGS, AS A WAY TO KEEP THE USABLE SECTIONS OF THE FURNITURES PREVIOUS UPHOLSTERY FROM ALSO ENDING UP IN LAND FILL.
AESTHETICS NOT USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH SUSTAINABILITY HAVE BEEN APPLIED (MOVING AS FAR AWAY FROM THE UP-CYCLED AESTHETIC AS POSSIBLE). THE INTENTION BEING, THAT THE APPEAL OF THESE PRODUCTS  EXTENDS TO A MARKET THAT MIGHT NOT USUALLY VALUE SUCH ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS AS WELL HAS BEING A NEW WAY TO HIGHLIGHT THE POTENTIAL BEAUTY OF RAW WASTE.
